Geological educational workshop with an interdisciplinary character
Description: The workshop focuses on the disciplines of geology, science and geography. During the visit to the museum, we will focus on the geological evolution of the Giara landscape. A documentary video on volcanic eruptions will then be shown. Once they have learnt about the characteristics of the volcanic environment, the children will try their hand at reconstructing the volcanic cones that gave rise to the Giara using special materials and ingredients. At the end of the workshop, the volcano will be erupted in a scenic but safe manner, simulating the initial eruption that started the formation process of the plateau.
Aims and objectives: The aim is to promote knowledge of the museum and its themes, focusing on geology, stimulating curiosity and interest in pupils. The aim is to introduce children to volcanoes as an important natural phenomenon of our country. The aim of this activity is to make the most of the chemical reactions that occur with certain elements and thus help the study of this chemical reaction. The volcano experiment can be considered an example of experiential education, where students learn through practical experience. It also lends itself to a declination into teamwork in that it is organised by having pupils work together.
The ultimate goal is to arouse the children’s interest, but also to initiate them into the study of chemistry and also the elements found in nature.
Target group: Primary and secondary school pupils.
Implementation phases and methodology: Guided visit to the Museum. Geological didactic workshop – manual with a multidisciplinary character.
