The Giara of the Senses

The Giara of the Senses

Sensory educational workshop with an interdisciplinary character

Description: With this sensory workshop, students are stimulated in their perceptions through the stimulation of the five senses: this proves to be a useful exercise in educational and emotional terms. Students learn about the world around them, a place where they can develop observational skills to learn to look at and understand reality.

During the excursion in search of the little horses, on the Giara Plateau, we will stop in the woods to undertake a tactile and olfactory journey, learning to recognise the diversity of the elements and the sensations they provoke.

We will discover how sometimes sight can deceive us and learn to get to know nature from a new perspective.

Aims and objectives: The aim is to promote knowledge of the vegetation aspects of the Giara, customs linked to the use of herbs in cooking, in popular tradition and as a basis for the medicine of our ancestors; knowledge of the properties of herbs and their use in everyday life and farming culture. To stimulate curiosity and interest in pupils; to encourage the pupil to explore materials that stimulate his senses, to develop the sense of touch and smell. Deepening naturalistic themes, encouraging perceptive skills and the expression of feelings and emotions

Target group: Children from pre-school to secondary school age.

Phases of implementation and methodology: A hike along the paths of the Giara Plateau aimed at getting to know the plants that will be the subject of the workshop to be held in the picnic area. The children will be blindfolded and will have to recognise the objects that will be offered to them.
