Burials and Temples

The only tombs of Nuragic age on the plateau are located in the territory of Gesturi and are the two Tombs of the Giants of Conca’ and S’Ebba, at the border with the territory of Genoni. They are 12 m apart from each other. They are very particular: They associate the orthostatic technique with that of rows, with reverse use of the two techniques in the room and in the entrance. The shepherds’ huts that are near probably follow the original nuragic settlement to which the tombs were to refer.

In the Gesturi territory you can visit some tombs of giants, including those of “Su Scrusorgiu” and Lacarissu. The first burial, built in rows technique, is located on private land and is well visible today: during the excavation of the first were exposed several human remains belonging to thirty individuals.

On the western front of the hill of Santu Antine has been exposed the deepest known sacred well of Nuragic age, 39.85 m. Only a portion of the upper part was found inside the well, together with a Roman winch. It is wrapped with trachyte up to a depth of 6.5 m; the remaining part is built with blocks of limestone, transported from neighboring territories to ensure the quality and taste of the water. Several stone, bronze and ceramic finds have been found from the Nuragic age and the Punic and Roman period.

On the plateau, Dr Usai has speculated that there is a temple near Bruncu Madugui for some of the stones found. On the north-western spur of the Giara, in the territory of Genoni is located the rotunda of Corona Arrubia, of which only the ring base remains: it has returned pottery, fragments of bronzes, votive swords, pendants, pins and rods of the final first iron bronze.
